SIMET is a research and development project funded by the Clean Sky Joint Technology (JTI). This framework was created by the European Commission for funding research project in Europe with the contribution of private investment. SIMET takes place inside the “System for Green Operation” (SGO) Integrated Technology Demonstrator (ITD) that should develop new mission & trajectory systems that have to reduce the emissions and the noise through aircraft trajectory optimisation. One major innovation would be that the FMS takes into account atmospheric parameters in order to better optimize the flight plan and therefore reduce the CO2 emission. SIMET directly contributes to the goal of optimizing the flight plan by providing the atmospheric conditions. The project will therefore develop an important atmospheric data repository, feed a flight simulator and contribute to design and validate new flight management system algorithms. The weather data repository will contain at least 3 years of worldwide analysis and forecasts available every 6 hours. The project aims to develop 4 components: • a weather data repository (WDR) that contains data like wind, temperature, pressure, humidity, icing index, clear air turbulence index, convective activity index and reflectivity, • a pre-processing & importation tool (PIT) to import the Grib files in the weather data repository, • a weather planning system (WPS) that provides a graphical interface to search specific atmospheric conditions in the world and to monitor the flight simulation, • a weather simulator engine (WSE) that sends the atmospheric conditions to the flight simulator, flight dynamic and FMS. GTD is in charge of the development of: Weather data repository, (WDR) that contains data like wind, temperature, pressure, humidity, icing index, clear air turbulence index, convective activity index and reflectivity, Weather planning system, (WPS) that provides a graphical interface to search specific atmospheric conditions in the world and to monitor the flight simulation, Weather simulator engine, (WSE) that sends the atmospheric conditions to the flight simulator, flight dynamic and FMS.
