The Commission has approved, under EU State aid rules, an Important Project of Common European Interest (‘IPCEI') to support research, innovation and the first industrial deployment of microelectronics and communication technologies across the value chain. The project, called “IPCEI ME/CT”, was jointly prepared and notified by fourteen Member States: Austria, Czechia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Spain. The Member States will provide up to €8.1 billion in public funding, which is expected to unlock additional €13.7 billion in private investments. As part of this IPCEI, 56 companies, including OPENCHIP, will undertake 68 projects. Openchip is a fabless semiconductor company targeting the market of accelerators chips for HPC, AI/ML/DL. These accelerators will be designed with the latest silicon technology nodes (< 5 nm) and under RISC-V architecture. This new company contributes to the strategic need of "digital sovereignty", both for Europe's economy and security. Openchip is a newco founded in 2021 by GTD and BSC (Barcelona Supercomputing Center) Openchip devices will enable accelerating scientific discovery, visualizing big data for insights, and providing smart services to consumers are everyday challenges for researchers and engineers. These challenges take increasingly complex and precise simulations, the processing of tremendous amounts of data, or training sophisticated deep learning networks. These workloads also require OPENCHIP accelerators that will meet the growing exponential demand for computing.
