The leading company in high-criticality software acquires 100% of the company after purchasing Puertos del Estado's stake in a public auction. BARCELONA. February 8, 2018. GTD Sistemas de Información, the leading company in high-criticality technology solutions for the space, aeronautical, and energy sectors, has completed the acquisition of Portel Servicios Telemáticos, the ICT solutions company for the port sector. To date, GTD held a 49% stake in Portel, and the merger was completed following the public auction of the remaining 51% held by Puertos del Estado. “This is a strategic transaction for GTD, as Portel is a leading company in the development of cutting-edge technological solutions for the port sector, which will allow us to gain a strong position in a new market,” says GTD CEO Carlos Kinder. The executive also highlights the opportunity that the transition from public to private management represents for the company. “With this integration, Portel will no longer be tied to administrative processes when making strategic decisions and planning its future, so its growth will not be limited.” International expansion One of the first strategic actions in this new phase for Portel will be planning its international expansion. The company is currently developing projects in West Africa, the Middle East, and South America. "Our goal is to open new markets by designing and developing innovative and technologically groundbreaking solutions," Kinder notes. In this regard, Portel is in the development and implementation phase of a new generation of port single window, which is already operational in Morocco. "This is a solution that enables the digitalization of all port procedures, thus eliminating paperwork in customs commercial transactions and ensuring complete transparency and security in both administrative processes and the passage of goods," emphasizes the GTD executive. Innovative vocation With this transaction, GTD adds to its group a leading company in the development of technological solutions for the port sector. At the organizational level, the company will create a new innovation department responsible for developing innovative solutions based on the exchange of know-how between both companies in their respective sectors. In fact, this exchange has already borne fruit with the implementation of the Airfreight Solution air freight traffic management program at the airports of Barcelona and Madrid. "This is an adaptation of port management systems to the aeronautical world, developed by Portel, which will be implemented very soon at all Spanish airports and in other countries," Kinder explains.
