GTD will the leader of a new and huge R&D project in the area of Energy management and distribution. The project will be in partnership with the IREC, the Catalonian Institute for Renewable energies, Endesa (the Spanish main electric operator), Circutor (Spanish electrical equipment manufacturer, Citcea, BDigital, and Cinergia. The project aims to make industrial research for progress towards the creation of products and services within the new paradigm of distributed energy resources (DER) exemplified by the smart grids, energy efficiency, green power generation from renewable sources and electric vehicles . The research test environment will be a micro-grid electric network located at the Institute of Energy Research of Catalonia (IREC). The R&D challenges are: • Algorithms for optimizing the interaction between the mix of renewable and load VE • Algorithms for energy exchange between the micro and the distribution network simulation based on price signals • Communication Systems for the micro-grid: virtualization devices and improvements on existing protocols • Technologies that make the model scalable and applicable to larger networks • New standards to enable interoperability of equipment from different manufacturers in the micro-grid • Allocation of the environment in the operation of the micro-characterization of the impact of environmental conditions The experimental environment will be a micro-grid network based on a less tan 100 Kw power supplies, sourced bye: • Different renewable sources • Equipment for Low Voltage storage • Power electronic equipments • VE Connection points. • AMI – Smart Metering • Active Demand and Passive Demand • Connection to the main Distribution Network. A complete presentation of the project will be shown at the Workshiop “Conferencias sobre Generación Distribuida” (Conferences about Distributed Generation), to be hold in Madrid in May the 5th 2010.
