GTD is conducting a study for the French National Space Agency ‘CNES’ aiming to identify critical design factors for future Ariane 6 command and control systems which would reduce their recurrent maintenance and operational costs. Leveraging on the experience acquired after 20 years maintaining and operating Ariane 5, Vega and SOYUZ control systems, and based on GTD’s consolidated experience in systems design and development, the study addresses a number of system-level improvements that shall allow increasing the efficiency and effectiveness in maintenance and operation tasks. The study will propose measures such as establishing a system reference architecture (based on a selection of technologies that enable long-term maintenance), integrating operations planning and workflow in the control system itself, ensuring system qualification during their whole life cycle, and operations automation.
