This contract (700.000€) represents the first phase of a complete program worth 4M€ during the next 2 years. Aerial view of UPG The contract is to build the new control & command system for the Solid Propellant Factory, close to Guyana Space Port. The Guiana Propellant Plant (UPG) managed by Regulus Company is a world unique site for its specific activities and constraints. The plant produces the solid propellants needed by Ariane 5 boosters and Vega first stage. Just to provide som figures, each segment of a booster needs 107 Tn. of propellant (2 segments per Ariane 5 booster are produced at UPG). Since 1990 more than 280 segments produced, this means more than 30.000 Tn. of solid propellant produced so far. UPG is composed by 46 buildings in a spread area of about 300 hectares classed under Seveso directive. This entire infrastructure is controlled & supervised by several computers and automates systems, most of them has become outdated and shall be rebuilt. GTD will be responsible of the first phase of this project which is dedicated to the modernization of the control systems for the first 7 buildings. Some segments are prepared in the stock hall CNES and ESA will coordinate the whole project providing their knowledge of the user needs and the operational constraints at the Europe Space Port. The project has very stringent constraints because of the operational needs of the UPG (about 28 segments produced per year) and show the confidence of our customers in the reliability and capabilities of GTD. The first phase of the project will be considered as a pilot project for the next phases until the completion of the renewal of the control and command systems at UPG.
