GTD System & Software Engineering will host the 2018 edition of SpaceUp Barcelona, taking place on May 12–13 at the company’s headquarters.

A New Edition of SpaceUp Barcelona to Be Hosted by GTD

The event brings together space professionals, students and enthusiasts for two days of collaborative discussions, presentations and networking within the international space community.

What Is SpaceUp?

SpaceUp is a two-day “unconference” dedicated to space topics. Unlike traditional conferences, participants actively shape the event:

  • Attendees propose and vote on session topics
  • Anyone can give a talk or present a demo
  • Roundtables and panels are moderated by participants
  • The final schedule is decided collaboratively

This dynamic format ensures that sessions are relevant, engaging and community-driven.

The “T minus 5” Format

One of the highlights of SpaceUp is the popular “T minus 5” session format.

Each speaker presents:

  • 20 slides
  • 5 minutes total
  • Slides auto-advance every 15 seconds

This fast-paced, informal structure encourages creativity, spontaneity and the exploration of diverse space-related topics.

GTD’s Commitment to the Space Community

With headquarters across three continents and a strong presence in European and international aerospace programs, GTD is one of Spain’s key space industry players.

By hosting SpaceUp Barcelona, GTD reinforces its commitment to:

  • Supporting the space ecosystem
  • Promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing
  • Connecting with emerging and experienced talent
  • Strengthening its position as a reference company in aerospace

The initiative is driven through GTD’s Ambassadors internship program, led by a young and specialized team focused on talent acquisition and engagement in non-profit, community-based events.

Connecting with the International Space Sector

SpaceUp events often feature internationally recognized participants, including:

  • Astronauts
  • Scientists
  • Space program managers
  • Industry executives and engineers
  • Writers and researchers

Hosting the event provides GTD with an opportunity to showcase its expertise in the space sector, remain at the forefront of industry developments and engage directly with professionals shaping the future of space.

Through this collaboration, GTD continues to strengthen its role within the global aerospace community while fostering innovation, learning and talent development.
