LuxQuanta, the quantum cryptography spin-off co-founded by GTD and ICFO in 2021, has been selected for the prestigious EIC Accelerator program. This milestone strengthens Catalonia’s leadership in secure quantum communications and marks a major leap in LuxQuanta’s mission to scale quantum key distribution (QKD) across Europe.
LuxQuanta is among a select group of companies chosen by the European Innovation Council (EIC) in its latest Accelerator call. Backed by EU Horizon Europe, this program supports disruptive startups and SMEs ready to scale breakthrough innovations.
With this recognition, LuxQuanta will receive:
This selection highlights LuxQuanta’s excellence and the strategic potential of quantum technologies developed in Europe.
LuxQuanta was born from the “Quantum Cryptography in Critical Communications” project led by ICFO and co-financed by the Generalitat de Catalunya. The initiative is deploying a quantum-secured fiber-optic communication ring in the Barcelona metropolitan area, laying the foundation for the pan-European quantum internet (EuroQCI).
GTD, as industrial co-founder, is proud to support this pioneering initiative that integrates advanced quantum cryptography into existing infrastructure. The project not only boosts cybersecurity but positions Catalonia as a quantum innovation hub.
With a team of 25 professionals and just two and a half years of existence, LuxQuanta is rapidly evolving into Europe’s reference QKD manufacturer. The recognition also reflects positively on the Generalitat de Catalunya, whose strategic investment in digital innovation is paying off.
“This confirms that Catalonia is ready to take the leap and maximize the pioneering commitment of the Government towards quantum technologies,” said Gina Tost i Faus, Secretary of Digital Policies of the Generalitat, reinforcing the role of ICFO as a cornerstone of this ecosystem.
