General Electric (GE) Renewable Energy, one of the most relevant players within the renewable energy technology sector around the world, has awarded GTD with a first collaboration contract for its wind power business. In the scope of this contract, GE has entrusted GTD with the responsibility of capturing the control requirements given at a high level by GE’s engineering team for one of its most cutting-edge wind turbines and, through a model based approach, to create the optimum control design specification to be used later on by software developers. This includes the development of technical specifications not only at an individual sub-system level (such as for Yaw, Pitch or Power module control) but also taking into consideration how these components interact with each other, always with the goal of achieving the highest level of reliability to date. With its background in highly critical control systems, GTD has to ensure the development of the most fitting control design for this technological challenge. With this project, GTD’s Science & Energy unit takes one step further into the development of advanced technologies for the most meaningful objectives, as is the production of carbon-free energy to enable a cleaner and more sustainable future for all.
